Scouring
Scouring in calves is caused by several factors. The most important factor affecting whether or not scours will develop in the young calf is the intake of sufficient quantities of colostrum. This means that at least 3l, up to 3.8l for Holstein calves should be fed within an hour after birth, according to the 2001 NRC. This colostrum should be from multiparous cows to ensure sufficient antibody content.
At 4MIX our focus is healthy gut, healthy profit, therefore our products focus on the early development of the rumen and immune support.
To prevent milk from entering the rumen at a too early age, it is important to stimulate the formation of the esophageal tube, this is accomplished by feeding milk close body temperature and ensure strong suckling action.
Consistency and hygiene of the products fed to young calves is imperative.
Lactocalf is our superior calf milk replacer; the balance of ingredients and medium chain fatty acids supports the immunity of the calf. The formulation of the product ensures it dissolves easily at a range of temperatures to ensure a consistent mixture. To acidify the milk replacer to enhance digestibility and prevent bacterial growth in feeder systems, Clex Blue drink can be used in conjunction with Lactocalf.
